Corigliano-Rossano officials protest railway closures
Local political leaders and institutions in Corigliano-Rossano and the surrounding Calabria region are protesting the scheduled closure of the Paola–Castiglione Cosentino railway line. The interruption, caused by planned works on the Santomarco tunnel, is set to occur from December 13, 2026, to January 27, 2027.
Critics, including the local Democratic Party (PD) and Mayor Flavio Stasi, have raised concerns that the timing coincides with the Christmas holiday period. This schedule is expected to significantly impact travelers, particularly citizens living in Northern Italy or abroad who intend to return to the Cosentino, Alto Ionio, and Castrovillari areas to visit family.
The Democratic Party has filed an urgent request with the Transport Regulation Authority (ART) to protect passenger rights. The petition asks for a verification of the impact on travelers and calls on RFI to provide detailed technical justifications for why the works must be conducted during the holidays rather than being postponed to late January.
