Corinthians Extends Payment Deadline for Garro, Avoids Transfer Ban

Corinthians and Argentine club Talleres signed a new agreement that extends the deadline for the Brazilian side to pay the US$7 million (R$35 million) transfer fee for midfielder Rodrigo Garro. The clubs gave Corinthians five business days, with a final payment date of 16 June, to settle the debt that has been outstanding since January 2024. Failure to pay could have triggered a case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport and resulted in a transfer ban for the Brazilian club.

The extension follows negotiations in which Corinthians president Osmar Stabile travelled to Argentina and both parties compromised on the payment schedule. Talleres president Andrés Fassi indicated a willingness to be patient, allowing the deadline to be lengthened by four days. The agreement also prevents an immediate transfer ban, which would have further hampered Corinthians, already under a ban related to a separate debt with Philadelphia Union.

Corinthians now has a narrow window to secure the required funds and avoid additional sanctions, while Talleres aims to receive the full amount owed for Garro’s acquisition.
