Corinthians Faces Federal Probe into Finances Over Heritage Concerns

On 25 June 2026, São Paulo state prosecutor Cássio Conserino filed a representation with the Federal Public Ministry requesting an investigation into alleged financial misconduct at football club Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.

Conserino argues the case is of federal interest because the club is considered a Brazilian cultural and social heritage. He cites accounting "machinery", lack of transparency in the financing of the Neo Química Arena with Caixa Econômica Federal, alleged violations of federal programs such as PROFUT and Timemania, and misuse of federal tax exemptions.

Audits by Parker Russell and Ernst & Young reportedly identified a R$ 593.3 million discount entry, a R$ 96 million fictitious investment in a real‑estate fund, payments to unrelated third parties and sequential invoices without service proof. The reports also note internal council conflicts of interest and question the club’s ability to continue operations.

Corinthians is pursuing designation as an intangible heritage of São Paulo city, a status Conserino says heightens the need for federal oversight.
