Corinthians faces financial crisis and player injuries

Corinthians is navigating a severe multi-faceted crisis involving significant debt, legal pressures, and key player injuries. According to a report by Anresf, the club leads the ranking of Brazilian football debts with approximately R$ 2.76 billion.

Financially, the club is under intense scrutiny. The Public Ministry has given the administration 15 days to explain multimillion-reais transactions and settle R$ 10.14 million in arrears. Additionally, the club has missed payments under a collective settlement plan with the National Chamber of Dispute Resolution (CNRD), leading Cuiabá to petition for an extension of the club’s transfer ban. Players also face potential contract rescissions due to three months of unpaid image rights.

On the pitch, the team is struggling in the Campeonato Brasileiro, sitting in 16th place. The squad has been further weakened by injuries to key players Memphis Depay, who suffered a muscle edema, and defender Gabriel Paulista, who has a muscle strain. These absences come amid a difficult period for the club, which has gone nine matches without a victory in the competition.
