Corinthians faces R$60 million FIFA debt as financial woes deepen
Corinthians has been ordered to pay more than R$60.3 million in FIFA-related liabilities for player transfers. The club failed to remit US$850,000 (about R$4.2 million) to New York City FC for forward Talles Magno's loan extension and faces additional fines, interest and procedural costs. Other outstanding debts include US$1.425 million to Philadelphia Union, a €1 million liability to a Danish club for midfielder Charles, and a settlement of around R$42 million with Argentina's Talleres over midfielder Rodrigo Garro. The disputes arise from contracts signed under former president Augusto Melo, who was expelled from the club’s board in early January.
A separate financial analysis ranks Corinthians as the Brazilian club with the largest total debt, amounting to R$2.75 billion, and the most negative net equity at R$774.1 million. This debt burden exceeds that of other major clubs such as Atlético‑MG, São Paulo and Botafogo, and raises concerns about the club’s ability to invest, meet transfer obligations and remain competitive on the field.
