Corinthians Gains Extra Deadline to Pay Talleres Debt, Averts Transfer Ban

Sport Club Corinthians Paulista obtained an additional deadline to settle its outstanding debt with Argentine club Talleres de Córdoba stemming from the 2024 acquisition of forward Rodrigo Garro. The original payment deadline expired on 1 May, but the clubs agreed to extend the window into the current week, with Talleres allowing the cash to be transferred throughout the period.

Negotiations reduced the amount owed to just over R$ 40 million, down from earlier estimates that approached R$ 48 million after interest and penalties. Corinthians is arranging a loan with financial firm Outfield at an annual rate of 1 % plus CDI to fund the payment. Club president Osmar Stabile travelled to Argentina to finalise the deal, though final bureaucratic validation remains pending.

If the debt is not cleared by the new deadline, FIFA could impose a transfer ban on Corinthians, preventing the registration of new players.
