Corinthians slapped with another indefinite FIFA transfer ban over unpaid debts

FIFA imposed an indefinite transfer ban on Brazilian club Corinthians on 13 July, blocking the registration of any new players until the club settles outstanding debts. The sanction follows a previous ban earlier this year and is tied to non‑payment of a US$225,000 fine and other obligations linked to former signings of José Martínez, Talles Magno and Charles. Corinthians also still owes about US$1.5 million to the Philadelphia Union and has pending disputes with New York City FC and Midtjylland.

The club’s management said it has been prioritising player salaries over debt clearance, but recent negotiations to bring striker Wesley (Al‑Nassr) and midfielder Arthur (ex‑Grêmio) back to the squad have revived urgency to resolve the bans. The restriction threatens Corinthians’ ability to reinforce the roster ahead of the Brasileirão’s crucial stages, potentially jeopardising its pursuit of a top‑four finish and a Libertadores spot.
