Corinthians' fourth FIFA transfer ban deepens financial woes as Memphis Depay contract talks continue

Corinthians has been hit with a fourth FIFA transfer ban within two months, imposed for failing to pay roughly R$ 6.2 million owed to Danish club Midtjylland for midfielder Charles. The sanction blocks the registration of new players for three transfer windows. Additional bans stem from unpaid amounts to the Philadelphia Union (José Martínez), disciplinary fines and a delayed CBF arbitration payment, bringing total liabilities above R$ 23 million.

At the same time, the club is negotiating a renewal of Dutch striker Memphis Depay’s contract, which expires on 31 July 2026. Depay has agreed to a salary reduction and is considering a deal that adds creative remuneration such as commercial products, events and sponsorships. Club executive Marcelo Paz said, “He received the proposal, which includes salary and also other forms of creative remuneration.” The negotiations are in their final stage, with the aim of registering a new contract before the deadline, otherwise the transfer bans would prevent his registration.

Depay remains away from training and will miss the upcoming match against Remo, while Corinthians’ inability to sign new players heightens the importance of retaining the striker for the remainder of the season.
