Corinthians ordered to pay R$ 3 million to former player

The Labor Court of São Paulo has ordered Corinthians to pay nearly R$ 3 million in compensation to a former player. The athlete suffered a severe knee injury during a U-20 match in December 2020. The court ruled that the injury, exacerbated by subsequent microtraumas, resulted in permanent incapacity to play professional football. The total amount includes R$ 2.2 million for material damages, R$ 200,000 for moral damages, and additional payments regarding the lack of mandatory insurance and job security guarantees.

Separately, the Public Prosecutor's Office of São Paulo (MP-SP) is conducting an initial investigation into the possibility of judicial intervention at Corinthians. Prosecutors Luiz Ambra Neto and André Pascoal clarified that the civil inquiry is in its early stages and is currently gathering evidence to evaluate the club's administrative situation. This follows protests by organized supporter groups demanding an interventor to manage the club's political and administrative crisis.

In other regional news, a labor court in Ji-Paraná overturned the dismissal of an immigrant worker who was fired for taking bananas from a cafeteria, ruling the punishment disproportionate.
