Corné H. sentenced to conditional term for Vught prison hostage incident

A Dutch court sentenced 30‑year‑old Corné H. to one year of conditional imprisonment for the hostage‑taking of several prison staff at the Penitentiaire Inrichting Vught on the evening of 5 December 2025. H. used kitchen knives and handcuffs to restrain the employees, who reported intense fear for their lives, before negotiators persuaded him to end the siege. The court imposed a fully suspended sentence to allow his ongoing tbs (psychiatric) treatment to continue without interruption, and ordered him to pay compensation to the victims. He has been transferred to a tbs clinic for continued care. H. had previously been convicted for a March 2024 café hostage in Ede, where he held four staff members against their will.
