The João Pessoa consumer protection agency (Procon-JP) surveyed 20 public markets on June 3, recording price differences for fresh corn (milho in natura). For a full hand without husk (52 ears) prices ranged from R$ 50 to R$ 100, a gap of R$ 50. A hand with husk showed a R$ 30 spread, between R$ 45 and R$ 75. Half‑hand with husk (26 ears) varied from R$ 25 to R$ 37.50, a R$ 12.50 difference, while half‑hand without husk ranged from R$ 25 to R$ 50. Unit prices were reported between R$ 1 and R$ 3. The agency urged consumers to monitor these variations when purchasing corn in the coming days.
