Corn producers in Batman demand higher prices amid rising costs

Corn harvesting is underway in Batman and surrounding areas, covering approximately 60,000 decares. About 20 percent of the planted area has already been harvested.

Producers are facing significant pressure due to high costs for fertilizers, diesel, and other agricultural inputs. Farmers are calling on the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) to set a reasonable purchase price to prevent financial losses. Specifically, producers are requesting a price of at least 16,000 TL, or ideally around 16,500 TL per ton, noting that current market prices hover between 14,000 and 14,500 TL.

There are concerns that if the TMO announces a low purchase price, it could drive market prices even lower. While yields are expected to be around 800-900 kilograms per decare, producers emphasize that high yields alone will not guarantee profitability if the price remains insufficient to cover rising production costs.
