Corn production expands in Indonesia to support food self-sufficiency

Agricultural developments in Indonesia are focusing on corn production to support national food self-sufficiency. In Banyuwangi, East Java, an initial harvest has taken place on 20 hectares of land at Green Farm. This is part of a larger 100-hectare development project for Bhayangkara corn seeds aimed at increasing national productivity.

In Bantul, farmers are utilizing corn cultivation as a seasonal alternative during the dry season. In the Jetis district, farmers reported net profits of approximately Rp3 million per harvest from a 1,000-square-meter plot. The corn is sold to companies at a stable price of roughly Rp6,500 per kilogram. Some farmers use specific seed varieties provided by companies from East Java, which supply seeds and purchase the female corn harvests, while farmers manage the sale of male corn independently.
