Cornell University students sued in gang-rape lawsuit

A lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court alleges that seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity at Cornell University drugged and gang-raped a 20-year-old student in October 2024. The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, claims she was pressured into snorting ketamine before being sexually assaulted over several hours.

The 101-page filing includes screenshots of group messages sent via Snapchat to a group titled ‘Chi Phi Actives’ during the assault. Messages allegedly included invitations for others to join, with one member writing ‘free p—y’ and another stating that others could ‘walk in and whip it out.’

The lawsuit names the seven fraternity members—Matthew Ingalls, Johnathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gillio Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris, and Scott Kretzschma—as well as Cornell University, several sorority groups, and a local bar. The plaintiff alleges that Cornell failed to discipline the students and instead offered them the opportunity to mitigate their conduct by submitting essays. No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
