Cornell University welcomes over 4,200 new students for fall orientation

Cornell University has begun welcoming more than 4,200 new students to its Ithaca campus for the fall semester orientation. The incoming class consists of 3,681 first-year students and 603 transfer students.

The first-year cohort represents 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and 62 different countries. Approximately 12.8% of the first-year class are the first in their families to attend college. The transfer group includes 23 veterans, and four members of the first-year class have military backgrounds.

This year marks a shift to on-campus check-ins for new students, moving away from the off-campus process used in previous years. Orientation activities are scheduled to continue through August 23, with a new student convocation set for August 18.
