Cornwall Council moves to evict vanlifers from Newquay car park

Cornwall Council has served eviction notices to the occupants of 31 vans parked at Towan Headland car park in Newquay, ordering them to leave by 4 p.m. on July 17. After the deadline, a small number of vehicles remained, prompting council officials to seek a court order to remove the vans.

Local residents have complained about loud music, waste being left in the park and intimidation linked to the presence of the van‑dwelling community. The council and Newquay mayor Drew Creek have proposed creating a temporary ‘meanwhile site’ for vanlifers and suggested that the town take over management of the car park, citing examples of similar facilities in Bristol that provide basic services such as water and sewage.
