Cornwall Council rejects Bude Masonic hall redevelopment

Cornwall Council has rejected a proposal to redevelop a Masonic hall in Bude. The plan sought to demolish the existing building, which dates back to approximately 1912, to make way for a new facility.

The applicant proposed constructing a modern replacement lodge on the ground floor with four residential apartments above. According to the planning agent, the existing timber-framed structure had become financially unsustainable due to high maintenance and heating costs. The inclusion of residential units and a public-use catering space was intended to ensure the project's financial viability and the long-term future of the community facility.
