Cornwall Council requests removal of memorials at Newquay beauty spot
Cornwall Council and Cormac have issued an appeal for individuals to remove personal memorials, including ribbons, flowers, plaques, and keepsakes, from the clifftop fencing at Barrowfields in Newquay. The request comes as the structure is scheduled for imminent replacement as part of wider site improvements.
Officials stated that while they aim to reunite items with their owners, they cannot guarantee the return of any decorations left on the fence once work begins.
The project also includes replacing demolished shelters with new benches. The council noted that the previous shelters had reached the end of their useful life due to storm damage and vandalism, and had become sites for antisocial behaviour. While some residents welcome the change for safety and accessibility, others have expressed concern regarding the loss of weather protection at the site.
