Cornwall NHS Trust land transformed into wildlife haven

A biodiversity project at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Kernow Building in Pool has successfully transformed a small patch of land on a busy industrial estate into a wildlife haven.

By leaving selected grass areas uncut during the spring and summer months over the last two years, staff and the trust’s estates team have created a meadow-style habitat. The initiative has resulted in the growth of 196 wild orchids and has attracted various pollinators, including bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and leafcutter bees. Additionally, a colony of yellow meadow ants has established itself on the site, and a grasshopper was recently recorded.

The project aims to support local biodiversity while simultaneously enhancing the wellbeing of staff working at the Kernow Building.
