Cornwall woman found dead at same beach where son died six years ago

Sharmeen Lin George, 52, was found dead on October 5 near Lighthouse Hill on Portreath beach in Cornwall, South West England. Her body was recovered by the Coastguard following a report from a member of the public. Devon and Cornwall Police have stated that her death is not being treated as suspicious, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.

This event marks a tragic recurrence at the same location; in May 2020, her 18-year-old son, Juan, was found dead near the rocks of the same beach. An official investigation into Juan's death concluded there was insufficient evidence to attribute it to suicide.

Following her son's passing, Sharmeen became a prominent figure in mental health advocacy. She established a ‘grief cafe’ in Cornwall to support those navigating loss and collaborated with the Good Grief Trust to develop ‘Good Grief Pop Up Cafes’. In 2021, she was honored with the Caroline Flack Mental Health Hero award for her contributions to grief support and community solidarity.
