Coronary CT angiography suitability depends on patient clinical status
Cardiology specialist Associate Professor Hasan Yücel has advised that coronary CT angiography, commonly referred to as ‘virtual angiography,’ is not suitable for every patient. While the method is a valuable tool for evaluating the anatomical structure of coronary vessels and detecting plaques or narrowings, its application must be carefully considered based on individual patient profiles.
The procedure utilizes a computed tomography device and an intravenously administered contrast agent. Unlike classical invasive angiography, it does not require the insertion of a catheter into the vessels to reach the heart.
Clinical factors such as age, heart rate, arrhythmias, and renal function are critical in determining if this method is appropriate. Yücel emphasized that patients experiencing symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, or rapid fatigue should seek professional medical evaluation to determine the most suitable diagnostic approach.
