Coronation Street airs non‑fatal strangulation plot with Betsy Swain

ITV's long‑running soap Coronation Street has launched a storyline that highlights the silent dangers of non‑fatal strangulation. The plot follows character Betsy Swain, who suffers two strokes after her boyfriend Dylan Wilson applies pressure to her neck during consensual sex, causing a blood clot and temporary loss of circulation.

The storyline depicts Betsy's hospitalisation, her decision to give a police statement, and confrontations involving Dylan, her mother DS Lisa Connor‑Swain, and other residents such as Brody Michael and Ryan Connor. Producer Kate Brooks said, "Coronation Street has always pushed boundaries when it comes to telling challenging, thought‑provoking stories, and this story is no exception," underscoring the aim to raise public awareness of this common form of abuse.
