Coronel Juan Solá-Morillo council fails to remove convicted councilman

The municipal Deliberative Council of Coronel Juan Solá-Morillo failed to remove councilman Benjamín Ruíz from office following his conviction for unlawful deprivation of liberty involving a minor. Although Ruíz had previously served under house arrest, he retains his seat due to a lack of sufficient votes for removal.

Under Provincial Law 8126, which governs the municipality in the absence of its own organic charter, a two-thirds majority is required to expel a member. The vote failed to reach the necessary five out of seven votes, securing only four. Council President Antonio Girón noted that the failure to reach a unanimous decision was due to political ideology.
