Corpoelec faces calls for better power management and emergency repairs in Venezuela

Electricity service issues in Venezuela have prompted calls for better management and emergency repairs in the states of Táchira and Apure.

In Táchira, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry has proposed a load management schedule to the state utility, Corpoelec. The proposal suggests scheduling power cuts during nighttime for industrial parks to avoid operational halts and increased production costs. For commercial areas with high nightlife activity, such as Barrio Obrero, the Chamber requested prioritized supply between 6:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. on weekends to protect local gastronomy and entertainment businesses.

In Apure, more than 60 families in Puerto Páez have been without electricity for seven days due to a transformer failure. Local councilman Omar Ruiz has called for an emergency technical intervention, noting that the outage affects vulnerable indigenous communities and impacts the cold chain for food and medicine. The lack of power has also paralyzed digital payment systems and water pumping services in the border region.
