Corporate compliance evolves into strategic risk management tool

Companies in Spain and Romania are increasingly shifting their approach to regulatory compliance, moving from viewing it as a bureaucratic obligation to treating it as a strategic tool for risk management.

In Spain, a Valencia-based consultancy has launched an integrated legal management platform designed to centralize and automate compliance, information security, and cybersecurity. The tool aims to address internal disorganization—such as scattered documentation and manual processes—that often leads to regulatory breaches. This development follows a year where sanctions from the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) reached 48 million euros.

In Romania, business leaders are emphasizing that modern compliance serves as a preventative instrument for decision-making. Paul Andreescu, CEO of MAG TECH CONNECTIONS, notes that compliance allows management to identify and manage risks related to legislation, internal rules, and contractual obligations. Effective compliance helps companies avoid fines, fraud, litigation, and reputational damage by identifying vulnerabilities in both the business and its partners before they escalate.
