Corporate reputation management faces digital complexity
Corporate reputation management is becoming increasingly complex due to a fragmented digital communication landscape. Research from the Indonesian Public Relations Association (APPRI) and Atma Jaya Catholic University indicates that companies can no longer rely solely on centralized press releases to control their public image.
With approximately 180 million social media users in Indonesia, representing 62.9% of the population, information and grievances can spread instantly. This speed often outpaces a company's ability to provide official clarifications. Furthermore, public perception is heavily influenced by social media creators and influencers, whose opinions are often trusted more than official corporate statements. Misinformation also poses a significant risk to established brand images.
To navigate these challenges, businesses are utilizing press releases as a strategic tool for branding and image recovery. By publishing factual information through economic and business media networks, companies can provide structured communication to stakeholders, including customers, partners, and investors, helping to shape public perception and manage crises.
