BRI strengthens food ecosystem financing to support national protein self-sufficiency

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, known as BRI, is expanding its financing across the entire food ecosystem, from upstream to downstream, to support Indonesia's national protein self-sufficiency agenda. This commitment was highlighted during the CNN Indonesia Agrifood Forum 2026 in Jakarta.

The initiative targets several sectors, including fisheries, livestock, MSMEs, cooperatives, and processing industries. During the forum, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that food self-sufficiency is a matter of national sovereignty. He stressed the need for infrastructure support, such as cold storage, and financial access for small-scale producers like fishermen and fish farmers to improve their productivity and welfare.

Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono noted the strategic importance of the fisheries sector in meeting public protein needs. He suggested that developing value-added seafood products could make protein sources more accessible and affordable for the population.
