Corral de Calatrava opens plaza honoring artist Pedro de Juan

On 1 August 2026 the town of Corral de Calatrava in Ciudad Real inaugurated a new plazuela dedicated to the late local artist Pedro de Juan García. The ceremony was attended by regional Health Councilor Jesús Fernández Sanz, who highlighted the plaza as a new community meeting point within the ongoing revitalisation of the municipal auditorium area. The project cost around €400,000, with €40,000 contributed by the Castilla‑La Mancha regional government. Pedro de Juan, a Spanish plastic artist born in Corral de Calatrava, founded the town’s Semana Cultural, a programme that runs through early August. Mayor Andrés Cárdenas and family members also spoke, underscoring the artist’s lasting cultural legacy for the municipality.
