Correfoc installation spared from burning at Burning Man

The ‘Correfoc’ art installation, a collaborative project by designer Dani Nebot and architect Miguel Arraiz, will not be burned at the Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock City. Although the 2.5-ton, eight-meter-tall structure was originally designed to be ephemeral and consumed by fire—inspired by the Valencian tradition of the Fallas—the festival organizers have decided to grant it a ‘pardon’ and incorporate it into their permanent collection.

This marks the first time a work by Spanish artists has received this recognition at Burning Man. The installation, which features a design based on local Mediterranean fire traditions and iconic demons, faced significant assembly challenges, including a 48-hour halt due to severe sandstorms. While the specific future location of the piece remains unconfirmed, it is expected to be dismantled after the 2026 edition for relocation within the festival's various programs or exhibition spaces.
