Bolivia government modifies electricity toll distribution
The Bolivian government has issued Supreme Decree 5764, which modifies the pricing and tariff regime for the electricity sector. Under the new regulation, 100% of the transmission toll for the Backbone Interconnection System will be attributed to consumers, including distributors that supply households.
Previously, the cost was shared between distributors and private generators. Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energies, Marcelo Blanco, stated that the change is intended to be net zero for users, as the costs were already incorporated into existing tariffs. The decree also separates transmission costs from the variable costs of electricity production to prevent double charging.
Additionally, the decree modifies the calculation of diesel prices within the electrical system to ensure transmission costs are not included in generation variable costs.
