Corridor 8: Ministers discuss strategic connectivity in Sofia

At an international ministerial conference in Sofia, leaders and diplomats discussed the strategic development of Corridor 8, a vital transport link connecting the Black Sea to the Adriatic. Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova emphasized that the corridor must be treated as a single, unified strategic project rather than a series of disconnected segments, noting its potential for rail, energy, and military connectivity.

North Macedonian Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski participated in bilateral talks with Petrova-Chamova. While the meeting was described as constructive and held in a positive spirit, significant differences remain regarding North Macedonia’s EU integration, specifically concerning constitutional changes and bilateral obligations from 2022. Mucunski stressed that identity and history should not impede the European path and called for continued dialogue to overcome mutual distrust.

Regional security and economic integration were also central themes. Kosovo's Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca advocated for Kosovo's full inclusion in the network to bolster regional security and diversify transport routes. Additionally, funding for the third phase of the Kriva Palanka–Deve Bair railway line was highlighted, involving 149 million euros in EU grants and 175 million euros in loans from the EIB and EBRD.
