Corrientes authorities crack down on illegal hunting and fishing
Authorities in Corrientes, Argentina, have conducted several operations targeting illegal hunting, fishing, and cattle rustling.
In Ituzaingó, the Rural and Ecological Police utilized drones to locate hidden camps in difficult-to-access wetlands and dense vegetation. The operation uncovered a rustic canoe and campsites containing clothing and non-perishable food. Police believe these sites are used by individuals entering the area clandestinely to hunt wildlife and commit cattle theft. The canoe was seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident in Lavalle, police and natural resource inspectors intercepted three men on the Santa Lucía River. During the inspection of their motorboat, authorities discovered a 20-meter fishing net prohibited in the protected reserve, along with a loaded 16-gauge shotgun, knives, and other equipment. The suspects lacked the necessary documentation for the firearm. Legal proceedings have been initiated for illegal possession of a firearm and administrative sanctions for environmental infractions.
