Corrientes celebrates Father's Day in honor of José de San Martín
The province of Corrientes, Argentina, celebrates the ‘Día del Padre Correntino’ (Corrientes Father's Day) in honor of General José de San Martín. Established by Provincial Law 6.127 in 2012, the official celebration takes place on the third Sunday of August.
The date commemorates the birth of Mercedes Tomasa de San Martín y Escalada, the only daughter of the Liberator, who was born in 1816. This tradition follows a similar precedent set by Mendoza in 1986.
This year, the central ceremony is organized by the Fundación Animar and the Instituto Sanmartiniano Correntino at the Sociedad Española. The event will honor several local figures, including the Governor, Vice-Governor, Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and the President of the Deliberative Council. Additionally, the commemoration has been integrated into the 2026 school calendar.
