Corrientes implements fishing ban to protect dorado fish

The Corrientes Natural Resources Directorate has implemented an extraordinary fishing ban on a specific stretch of the Paraná River, between kilometers 1109 and 1150. This measure was triggered by an exceptional concentration of dorado fish, which has increased fishing pressure and made the species more vulnerable. The ban prohibits all forms of fishing, including commercial, sport, and subsistence, and will follow the school of fish if they move outside the current boundaries.

Violators face significant penalties, including fines equivalent to the cost of 500 liters of super fuel—estimated at approximately $1,050,000—and a minimum six-month disqualification from any activities related to the province's natural resources.

Amidst these conservation efforts, a notable 17-kilogram dorado was recently caught during a sport fishing excursion in Esquina, Corrientes. Following the catch and documentation, the fish was released back into the river to support regional conservation practices. This event occurs ahead of the third annual Torneo del Dorado Esquinense, scheduled for October 8-10.
