Corrientes launches Chamamé Week to celebrate cultural heritage

The city of Corrientes has officially launched the Chamamé Week, a series of cultural activities running from September 14 to September 22. The event aims to celebrate, promote, and preserve the musical genre, which is recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The festivities include musical performances, photographic exhibitions, book presentations, and discussions between established artists and emerging musicians. Key venues for these activities include the Museo Molinas, Sala Adolfo Mors, and Plaza Cocomarola. A central highlight occurs on September 19, the National Chamamé Day, which commemorates the legacy of Tránsito Cocomarola.

Local authorities, including Vice Mayor Ariel Báez and Secretary of Culture and Education Keren Anderson, emphasized that the program seeks to bridge generational gaps. This includes initiatives in municipal child development centers to introduce children to the music through sensory experiences with instruments like the accordion and guitar.
