Corrientes legislature advances epilepsy training bill for schools
The Chamber of Deputies in Corrientes, Argentina, has granted preliminary approval to a bill aimed at establishing a provincial program for epilepsy training and awareness. The initiative, proposed by Deputy Andrea Giotta of the Radical Civic Union (UCR), seeks to equip all educational institutions in the province with the tools necessary to identify and respond to seizure crises.
The program intends to provide training for teachers, administrators, non-teaching staff, and students. These training sessions, which may be in-person, virtual, or hybrid formats, will feature content tailored to different educational levels and age groups. The goal is to ensure rapid and safe action through coordination with provincial health and education departments.
Deputy Giotta emphasized that the project aims to combat the social stigma and misinformation surrounding epilepsy, noting that it is one of the most frequent neurological diseases globally. The bill has now moved to the Senate, where it has been referred to the Public Health Commission for further review.
