Corrientes trial resumes for missing child Loan as new witnesses testify

The oral and public trial for the disappearance of nine‑year‑old Loan in the city of Corrientes, Argentina, resumed on Tuesday after a brief recess. Four new witnesses are scheduled to give testimony, including two police officers who participated in the early search operations and two civilian witnesses. The hearing follows earlier testimonies from Loan’s parents, María Noguera and José Peña, as well as relatives who recounted the child’s last known movements on 13 June 2024 in the town of 9 de Julio.

The case implicates several defendants, among them former police chief Walter Maciel, former navy captain Carlos Guido Pérez, and other alleged conspirators accused of kidnapping and obstructing the investigation. The prosecutor, Carlos Schafer, and the family’s lawyer, María Belén Russo Cornara, continue to push for accountability as the tribunal schedules further hearings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
