Corrientes trial set for child abduction and homicide charges

The oral and public trial against Josías Santos Regis and attorney José Fernández Codazzi is scheduled to begin on October 26 in Corrientes. Regis is accused of child abduction and aggravated homicide following an incident on May 3 in Esquina, where authorities say he entered a residence and fired multiple shots to cause emotional distress to the child's mother.

Prosecutors allege that after removing the child from maternal care, Regis fled to El Duraznillo with the assistance of Fernández Codazzi, who allegedly used a vehicle to facilitate the escape. The pair reportedly planned to move the child out of the country before police intervened on May 5. The child was recovered in good health, triggering the ‘Alerta Sofía’ protocol.

Fernández Codazzi faces charges of aggravated concealment and child abduction. The Goya Trial Court has scheduled 17 witnesses to testify, with closing arguments expected on October 28.
