Corriverton teenager charged with manslaughter after fisherman's death

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter following the death of 55-year-old fisherman Asmat Mohamed Hussain in Corriverton, Guyana. The incident occurred on the night of August 12 near a supermarket in Dukestown.

According to police reports, Hussain was socializing with relatives when a violent altercation broke out involving the teenager. Witnesses alleged the boy brandished a knife during the scuffle. Hussain was found with severe injuries and later succumbed to them while receiving emergency medical treatment at the No. 75 Village Regional Hospital.

The suspect appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court, where the manslaughter charge was read. The teenager was released into the custody of his parents under specific conditions, including a requirement to report to the Springlands Police Station monthly and an order not to leave the jurisdiction. The case has been adjourned until September 17.
