Corsica celebrates religious traditions and announces sanctuary renovations

Religious celebrations for the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Corsica, recently took place at the Alesani convent. The festivities included mass and a procession, featuring a 15th-century Siennese masterpiece traditionally displayed in the church.

In conjunction with these celebrations, Bishop François-Xavier Bustillo announced a major renovation project for the Lavasina sanctuary in Cap Corse. The project aims to repair the historic structure without altering its character, addressing issues caused by weather and age. Planned improvements include replacing aluminum joinery with wood, repairing roofs, cornices, and coatings, and updating the terrace to better protect the facade.

The Church of Corsica intends to use this renovation to promote its heritage preservation policy, focusing on maintaining and restoring sites rather than divesting them. Funding for the project will be sought through faithful donations and a new legacy campaign to ensure the long-term safeguarding of these historical sites.
