Corsica Linea strike threatens France-Algeria maritime crossings
The CGT union has called for a 48-hour renewable strike at Corsica Linea, starting Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The industrial action threatens maritime crossings between France and Algeria, as well as routes connecting mainland France to Corsica, specifically between Marseille, Propriano, and L’Île-Rousse.
The union is protesting a decision to charter the vessel Massalia, which they claim will lead to the withdrawal of the Vizzavona, the loss of 90 permanent jobs, and negative impacts on seasonal employment. The CGT has also accused shareholders of an “illicit agreement” with CMA CGM that undermines French-flagged maritime employment.
Key demands from the union include: - The abandonment of the Massalia charter for public service delegation (DSP) lines. - Guaranteed financing for DSP routes until 2030. - An exemption from the European ETS system for specific lines starting in 2027. - The resumption of mediation involving the Office des Transports de Corse. - The integration of new LNG-powered vessels into the existing mixed-economy company structure.
