Corsica road network faces significant maintenance and management gaps

The Regional Court of Accounts (Chambre Régionale des Comptes) has released a report highlighting significant deficiencies in the road network management and investment policy of the Collectivité de Corse.

The audit reveals that 51% of the inspected road surfaces are in poor or very poor condition, and 15% of bridges require urgent intervention. The report criticizes the current maintenance approach, noting that interventions have been carried out in an empirical, unplanned manner due to insufficient knowledge regarding the actual state of the network.

Regarding modernization projects, the report indicates substantial delays. Less than half of the programmed operations have been completed after eight years, and nearly one-fifth have not yet been launched. While the Collectivité de Corse allocates significant funds to its road policy—averaging over 82 million euros annually—the audit suggests that the actual rate of completed or ongoing operations is significantly lower than reported in previous assessments.
