Cortadura Eurovelo 8 cycling route faces calls for immediate closure

Environmental groups and political entities are calling for the immediate closure of a section of the Eurovelo 8 cycling route in the Cortadura dunes, connecting Cádiz and San Fernando. Adelante Izquierda Gaditana and Agaden-Ecologistas en Acción have urged the Junta de Andalucía to dismantle the first segment of the route due to severe deterioration.

Critics highlight that the wooden walkways, built with over 2.3 million euros in European funds, are suffering from broken boards, shifting structures, and significant tilting. Furthermore, natural dune dynamics continue to bury parts of the path under sand. These conditions are described as a safety risk for cyclists, potentially causing instability and accidents.
