Cortemilia to host theatrical performance on Valle Bormida legends
The theatrical production “Il diavolo ci mette la coda – Demoni e masche in Valle Bormida” is scheduled to perform at the Convento Francescano in Cortemilia on September 3, 2026, at 21:00. Written, directed, and performed by Paolo La Farina, the show explores the oral traditions, superstitions, and legends of the Valle Bormida region.
The performance focuses on the “masche,” mysterious female figures deeply rooted in Piedmontese popular imagination, who were historically viewed as both feared and respected keepers of ancient knowledge. The production aims to recover and valorize the intangible cultural heritage of the area by bringing local stories, fears, and beliefs to life through contemporary theater.
In addition to the main cast, the event will feature fire effects by Natascia Poggio to enhance the mysterious atmosphere of the venue. This stop in Cortemilia is part of a broader initiative by Rete Teatri to highlight the unique identities and histories of the Valle Bormida.
