Cortes de Aragón approves Teruel fund redirection but rejects long COVID measures

The Cortes de Aragón has passed two distinct legislative measures. First, the parliament unanimously approved a Non-Legislative Proposal (PNL) presented by Teruel Existe. This measure aims to redirect the use of the Fund for Territorial Equalization (FITE) in the province of Teruel. The proposal seeks to reduce the use of these extraordinary funds for ordinary administrative expenses—such as funding the new Teruel hospital—and instead prioritize strategic projects intended to foster economic and social development in the region.

In a separate vote, the PP and Vox parties used their majority to reject a proposal aimed at supporting individuals with persistent COVID-19. The initiative, brought forward by Long COVID Aragón and supported by the PSOE, CHA, IU, and Teruel Existe, requested increased healthcare attention, more research resources, and better institutional coordination for those suffering from the chronic condition. Despite a previous unanimous institutional declaration of support for long COVID patients in June 2024, the current vote blocked specific measures regarding clinical continuity, specialist incorporation, and medical training.
