Cavalhadas traditions return to Corumbá and Pilar de Goiás

The traditional Cavalhadas celebrations will take place this weekend in Corumbá de Goiás and Pilar de Goiás, part of the Circuito das Cavalhadas which spans 16 municipalities in the state of Goiás.

In Corumbá de Goiás, the event features an epic reenactment of medieval battles between Moors and Christians. The spectacle involves 24 riders, including two kings, using horses, swords, spears, and blank-firing pistols. The festivities, which have a history spanning 274 years, are expected to attract over 15,000 tourists. The parade begins at 2:30 PM, heading toward the Campo das Cavalhadas Rei Hastimphilo.

In Pilar de Goiás, the presentations are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Homero Macedo Gomes Municipal Stadium. The Pilar reenactment is considered the oldest in the northern region of Goiás and serves as the origin for several other local Cavalhadas traditions. Both events are free to the public and are integrated into local religious festivities, such as the feast of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França and Nossa Senhora do Pilar.
