Corumbá officials debate reorganization of Porto Geral leisure area
A public hearing held at the Corumbá Municipal Chamber addressed the reorganization of the Prainha do Porto Geral. The initiative, led by councilman Matheus Cazarin, aims to transform the area into a dedicated leisure space for residents and tourists.
Authorities discussed managing the area where the Banho de São João takes place, which is currently shared by swimmers, small vessels such as jet skis, and vehicles. Key concerns raised include overcrowding during holidays and weekends, which complicates oversight and increases safety risks.
The debate also covered environmental issues, waste management, the organization of river activities, and the preservation of the cultural and religious identity of the Porto Geral region. Efforts are focused on ensuring the safety of children and bathers in the Paraguay River while balancing leisure rights with local economic activities.
