Corumbá revises waste tax and moves to close open dump

The municipal government of Corumbá, Brazil, issued Decree No. 3.652/2026 to regulate the Solid Waste Service Tax (TRS). The decree sets technical criteria for calculating the tax based on the number of properties, collection frequency and property use, assigning higher factors to commercial, industrial, hospital and other high‑waste generators. It also defines procedures for cost sharing, compensation and refunds for overpayments covering the 2022‑2024 periods.

In a related meeting on 27 July at the Mato Grosso do Sul Public Ministry, Mayor Gabriel Alves de Oliveira and officials outlined steps to replace the city’s open dump with a sanitary landfill serving Corumbá and neighboring Ladário. Plans include a new waste‑sorting unit, a composting system, registration and training of informal recyclers, and the possible installation of a private sanitary landfill. The municipality will report progress at future follow‑up meetings.
