COSAFA U20 Qualifiers: Eswatini prepares for opener as Malawi falls to Zambia

The TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations COSAFA Qualifiers are underway in Maputo, Mozambique.

Eswatini’s U20 national team has arrived in Maputo following an official send-off in Lobamba. Captain Njabulo Gama expressed readiness for the tournament, where the squad is drawn in Group B alongside South Africa, Angola, and Lesotho. Eswatini is scheduled to begin its campaign against Angola on September 19.

In Group C, the Malawi U20 national team suffered a 2-0 defeat in their opening match against Zambia. Billy Daka scored two late goals to secure the win for Zambia. Malawi’s coaching staff attributed the loss to slow attacking build-ups and difficulty adjusting to the natural grass pitch after training on artificial turf. Malawi must now win their remaining matches against Botswana and Comoros to advance toward the 2027 tournament in Ghana.
