Cosco Shipping expands direct maritime routes between China and Latin America

Cosco Shipping Specialised Carriers has launched a direct maritime service connecting the port of Jiangyin in China to Manzanillo, Mexico. The new route, which utilizes the multipurpose vessel ‘CSPC Jade’, reduces transit time to approximately 22 days, saving about 15 days compared to traditional routes that require transshipment through other ports.

This connection allows industrial goods from the lower Yangtze River region—including electronics, automotive components, and photovoltaic products—to reach Mexico directly. From Manzanillo, cargo is often transported via rail or truck to the United States.

In a separate development regarding China-Latin America trade, the direct maritime route between the Port of Chancay in Peru and Shanghai has seen significant growth. Between January and August 2026, the corridor recorded 170 trips and transported 141,000 tons of cargo, representing a 33.3% increase in volume compared to the same period in 2025.

Efficiency improvements have also been noted in perishable goods transport. A new mutual recognition model for cold treatment probes between Peruvian and Chinese authorities has reduced inspection times for refrigerated containers, such as those used for blueberry shipments, by nearly half a day.
